Definitions of terms used in this report
| Search Engine Readable Content |
Text which is able to be read and understood by most major search engines. Since search engine spiders cannot comprehend javascript, flash or text embedded in image files, these types of content are not considered to be "search engine readable". Only HTML text content contained within a web page's <BODY>
</BODY> element counts as being "search engine readable". |
| Keyword/Phrase |
Any item listed within the "Content" attribute of a web page's "Keywords" META tag. The list of keywords should be separated by commas. Any text contained between 2 commas is considered a single keyword/phrase. Therefore, if you had the following word list as your keywords: "dogs, black labrador retriever, hound"; your page would be considered to have 3 keywords/phrases - as "black labrador retriever" is considered a single term. |
| Keyword Accuracy |
This measurement shows how closely your keywords reflect search engine readable content of the page. The keywords META tag indicates tot he search engines which words and phrases on the document best represent the main focus or theme of the page. If your words appear in your keyword list which are not actually contained within the search engine readable text of the page, then you run the risk of having the search engines determine that the page has no focus - and your ranking will suffer accordingly. |
| Keyword Spam |
Over-use of any keyword/phrase within the search engine readable text of a page can result in the page's ranking being depreciated, or even having the page completely dropped formo the search engine indexes. |
| Keyword Frequency |
The number of times that a keyword appears within the search engine readbale text of the page is its "frequency". This report indicates the average keyword/phrase frequency for the entire document. |
| Keyword Density |
The percentage of the document's search engine readable text which contains keywords/phrases. If a page contains 1,000 words, but only 3 of those words are listed in the keywords tag, then the page has a lower keyword density than if the same 1,000 contained 10 words which were listed in the keywords tag. |
| Page Title |
The HTML <TITLE>
</TITLE> element. This element should be located within the document's <HEAD>
</HEAD> element. The title should provide an accurate synopsis of the page's main focus or theme. |
| META Tag |
A series of HTML tags contained within the page's <HEAD>
</HEAD> element - these tags provide valuable information to search engines regarding the content and focus of your web page. |
| Description META Tag |
A META tag which should provide a brief overview of the web page. Many search engines will display the description tag's contents in their search results. |
| Robots META Tag |
A META tag which tells search engine spiders whether or not the page should be included in the search engine's index, and whether or not the links contained within the page should be followed by the search engine spider. |
| Robots.txt File |
A file located in the top level directory of the website which tells search engine spiders which sections of the wbesite should be ignored by the search engine's spider. |
Please keep in mind that there are many factors which effect a web page's overall search engine ranking.
Every search engine has a unique set of ever-changing criteria for determining how a page is ranked against any particular search term.
Factors such as: inbound links; internal links; the size of the website; the relevance of your page's content to the search term; the rankings of pages which contain inbound links; and numerous other factors all play a role in determining your page's overall ranking in any particular search engine's index.
